Amaretto, April 2020

Since I have a habit of making my own version of things, this struck my fancy.

The result is quite good. If you taste in side-by-side with Disaranno brand (which we did), you can tell the difference. But without a close comparison most people won’t know the difference.

It is surprisingly easy to make, and costs 1/3 of what the name brands do.

Note: This was originally posted on my Recipes site, but it makes more sense to publish it on this site.

Amaretto

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups vodka
  • 2 Tbsp almond extract
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Combine water and sugars in a saucepan over medium heat. Heat until the mixture is boiling, and all of the sugar is dissolved. Remove the pan from the heat and let the mixture cool for 30 minutes.

Stir vodka, almond extract and vanilla extract into the mixture. Store in a sealed bottle.
